Our Projects

The 2017-18 Board of the Sunrise Rotary Vero Beach club is hard at work making the largest Rotary club in district 6930 even more meaningful than it already is.  In the past 5 years the club has donated to local and international projects $277,613. There are projects for youth, elderly & the environment; there are projects at Citrus Elementary, Environmental Learning Center, with Growing Healthy Kids, Little Birthday Angels, 6 scholarships, Crime stoppers, with 65 projects this past year alone.

Education

  • “Access” Girl’s Scholarships in remote India
  • New Horizons college tuition 3 young women in Dominican Republic
  • Resource Books for Mysore India
  • Dominican Republic Literacy project that is now being used in 3 schools with 1600 kids.
  • Dominican Republic take books in Spanish for the kids in Haitian village within DR.
  • Adopt a School at Citrus Elementary
  • Citrus Readers every Tuesday and Thursday during the school year.
  • Citrus School Vocational project with area business persons talking to 5th graders.
  • Dictionaries for North County Charter School
  • Little Free Libraries 3 added this year and maintained.
  • Peace Scholarship program support
  • Teaching English as a second language for IRC Adult Literacy
  • Accelerated Readers earn laptops (2)
  • Gifford Youth Orchestra scholarship
  • a Book for every Pre-K student in the county
  • Youth Exchange student incoming and outgoing
  • ELC educational Activity books for 4th graders learning about the lagoon
  • Scholarships: Music, George Schroeder Memorial, Interact student, Ray Collins Memorial-Vocational, Take Stock in Children

Community & Environment

  • “Community Cats” spaying and information forums
  • Rotary Fountain in downtown Vero maintenance
  • Booth at Celebrate the Arts Festival with the Cultural Council of Indian River County
  • Dominican Republic Water project with aqueducts, bio-sand filters and piping.
  • Dominican Republic “buy a bus” project for a Village with an old rusty van that worked on occasion.
  • Youth Guidance fishing, island cleaning and ELC education day
  • RISSA submerged grasses project (Rotary Initiative for Submerged Seagrass Awareness)
  • Island Clean up IR 42 off Round Island
  • Oyster Mats (we provide ARC with oysters and mats which they put together for a vocational project then we take the mats to the Lagoon where they begin to filter the water, each oyster can filter 50 gal per day)
  • Crime Stoppers Trashcan Wraps Pilot project in the VBHS
  • Vocational Recognition of a local non-Rotarian business person
  • Little Birthday Angels monthly birthday gifts from our members
  • Thanksgiving dinners for Salvation Army families
  • Christmas gifts for Toys for Tots
  • Stuffed Animals with Pet Smart for police, ambulances and others
  • Shoes for kids in Mexico
  • Create a new environmental scholarship in Paul Dritenbas’ name at Harbor Branch FAU
  • Florida Craft Brew and Wing Fest (our major fundraiser)

Health & Wellness

  • Dominican Republic Dental project  by taking dentists, assistants and equipment for a weekend of dentistry.
  • Polio Plus with the other 4 Indian River Rotary Clubs called Oktoberfest collectively we sent $14000 this year.
  • Member Cindy Z. has a therapy dog and is now taking him to kids with autism at Citrus Elementary
  • 1st Responder program/Award
  • “Growing Healthy Kids” teaching homeless kids healthy eating habits over a 6 week course
  • Citrus Elementary Autism Awareness sponsor
  • Food drive each month for Homeless food banks
